The major spice item produced in the state is Fresh Ginger which is used mainly for domestic consumption. Production of other spices like Chilly, Garlic, Coriander, Turmeric and Ginger are less compared to the demand in these States. The production development of spices in the state is looked after by State Horticulture Department.
The state cultivates spices in an area of 970 ha with the estimated production of 1300 Mt with a productivity of 1.34 MT. The major spices grown in Jharkhand are Ginger, Garlic, Chilly, Coriander and Turmeric.
