Agriculture and allied sector is the backbone of the Indian economy so as of our state Odisha. Near about 60% people earn their livelihood through Agriculture and allied activities. Growth of this sector is badly necessary for ensuring food security as well as the overall socio-economic growth of the farming community of our state. Odisha has a geographical area of 1,55,707 sq.Kms and is divided into ten agro climatic zones depending upon various parameters like soil types, topography, rainfall and cropping pattern. The major spices produced in the States are Chillies, Garlic, Ginger, Turmeric and Coriander.
Among the 75 spices cultivated in India, 5 spices such as Coriander, Garlic, Red Chilli, Ginger and Turmeric in Odissa. As on May 2023, the State has a spice exporter base of 26 firms, of which 6 are manufacturer exporters, with own facilities for processing and value addition of spices.

The export promotion activities of the Board are carried out through the Board's office at Koraput. Quality improvement training programmes are conducted every year to enhance the quality of the final spices crops produced.
